There's no arguing that Mark Andrews is one of the best tight ends in the league, but the Ravens believe his backup, Isaiah Likely, might be just as talented.
When Andrews missed the last six games of the 2023 season due to a cracked fibula and an ankle ligament injury, Likely filled in nicely, registering 21 catches for 322 yards and five touchdowns.
Of course, Baltimore is very excited about what the two will do playing together in 2024. Andrews feels the exact same way.
"It's going to be special," Andrews said via the team's website. "When you have two guys like that who are dynamic, mismatches all over the field, doesn't matter where you put us, that's tough to gameplan for. Both guys love to play ball, love to compete. It's going to be fun."
Andrews saw the bulk of the snaps at tight end last year, and rightfully so, as he posted 45 receptions for 544 yards and a team-leading six receiving touchdowns. However, Likely proved he's worthy of more opportunities over the last month and a half of the season.
The former fourth-round pick in 2022 knows those will come, but his exact role in the offense is still being ironed out.
"[I'm] finding my way in the offense as a chess piece, just seeing where I can fit in," Likely said. "Having all of us on the same field at the same time, you don't know whether it's going to be run or pass, and you don't know where the explosive play can come from."
Likely and Andrews are just the tip of the iceberg, too. The Ravens added two-time NFL rushing yards and touchdowns leader (2019, 2020) running back Derrick Henry to pair with two-time NFL MVP QB Lamar Jackson in the backfield.
Baltimore's offense was difficult to slow down a year ago. Thanks to Likely's end-of-season emergence, it wouldn't be surprising if it reached another level of dominance in 2024.
