Ravens waive Diego Pavia before NFL training camp

Diego Pavia arrived to the Baltimore Ravens as an NFL Draft snub. But now the Vanderbilt star won’t even make it to NFL Training Camp with the franchise either.

The Heisman Trophy finalist was waived Thursday before Baltimore reports, with NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport revealing the news. Pavia rises as a rare case of a high-profile college star not even making it to camp.

The 5-foot-10 dual-threat quarterback hit a meteoric rise at Nashville after transferring from New Mexico State. His college football celebrity grew after leading Vandy past Alabama in one of the biggest upsets of the 2024 season. He ultimately left the Commodores guiding a program-first 10-win season.

But Pavia delivered polarizing and controversial moments too. Pavia made a “F— the voters” post on his personal Instagram page after losing the coveted trophy to Fernando Mendoza of Indiana. He even got caught carrying a “F— Indiana” sign after losing to Mendoza.

Pavia immediately apologized for his antics. But many draft experts began to write off Pavia because of his off the field antics. His diminutive size at quarterback presented another dilemma. Still, new Ravens head coach Jesse Minter opted to take him in and allow him to line up next to two-time NFL Most Valuable Player Lamar Jackson.

So now Pavia is placed in lookout mode. He’ll aim to seek other opportunities in the pro football landscape. But he does hold Canadian Football League (CFL) rights to join the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, which surfaced back on April 27. Perhaps Pavia honors that agreement now.
