He was a three-star recruit coming out of Desert Mountain (Scottsdale, AZ) in the Class of 2019, where he was tabbed the No. 581 overall ranked player in the country. He committed to USC and opened his freshman season behind starter JT Daniels. Daniels however suffered a season-ending injury in the season opener and Slovis took over as the starter for the next 26 games, in which he led the Trojans to a 16-10 record and an appearance in the 2020 Pac-12 Conference Championship Game.
In 27 career games at USC, Slovis passed for 7,576 yards, 58 touchdowns and 24 interceptions and was named the Pac-12 Freshman of the Year in 2019 and First Team All-Pac 12 in 2020. He however transferred to Pittsburgh following the 2021 season, where he’d remain for one season before transferring to BYU for the 2023 campaign.
Slovis’ NFL Draft stock tanked following his final season of college football, in which he passed for just 1,716 yards, 12 touchdowns and six interceptions. He went undrafted in 2024 but latched on with the Indianapolis Colts as an undrafted free agent.
He however was waived before the 2024 season and latched on with the Houston Texans, where he remained until this week’s 53-man roster cuts. He now heads home to the Arizona Cardinals’ practice squad, where he could be activated if needed if an injury occurs to either Murray or Brissett.
Arizona is coming off a season in which it went 8-9 and missed the NFC Playoffs. It opens the 2025 season on the road against the New Orleans Saints on Sept. 7. Kick-off is scheduled for 1:00 PM on CBS.
