The NFL offseason often brings surprises, and this time it comes from a familiar name. Robert Griffin III has something new about his future with an update that caught everyone's attention.

Griffin made the announcement on Saturday after taking part in the Fanatics Flag Football Classic, which aired on Fox. He shared his plans on social media and made it clear he wants to chase something big.

“Proud and Honored to announce that I will be going for Gold in Flag Football with the USA National Team in 2028,” Griffin wrote. “The journey starts now and there is no greater honor than wearing USA across your chest and representing something more than yourself. USA! USA! USA!”

His statement raised questions. Griffin did not confirm if he plans to compete for a roster spot or take on a different role with the team. He could aim to play, or he could join as a coach or analyst.

Griffin currently works with Fox Sports as a college football analyst. He joined the network last season and worked as the No. 2 game analyst alongside Jason Benetti. Before that, Griffin worked at ESPN starting in 2021. He appeared on Monday Night Countdown before the network let him go after three years due to budget cuts.

A return to competition would mark a big shift. Griffin last played in the NFL during the 2020 season. He would turn 38 by the time the 2028 Olympics begin in Los Angeles. Flag football demands speed and quick movement, which could make a comeback tough.

The challenge does not end there. Team USA showed its strength during Saturday’s event. The squad dominated teams filled with current and former NFL players. The performance also made the gap evident between tackle football and flag football.

Other players have also shown interest. Joe Burrow has already said he wants to play for Team USA in 2028.

For now, Griffin has set his goal. The next step depends on how serious he gets about making the team.
