Sam Darnold Shares Initial Reaction To Vikings Signing Daniel Jones

The Minnesota Vikings bolstered their quarterback room this week, signing Daniel Jones to a one-year contract. The former No. 6 pick agreed to join the NFC contender's practice squad.

Jones was released by the New York Giants last week. He cleared waivers since there were two years remaining on his $160 million contract. Before the Duke product even signed with the Vikings, he received a nice endorsement from their head coach. Earlier this week, Kevin O'Connell told reporters that he has a tremendous amount of respect for the veteran signal-caller as a player and a person.

Immediately after the Vikings agreed to terms on a deal with Jones, fans started speculating about Sam Darnold's future in Minnesota. He's been having a career year with the Vikings, completing 67.6 percent of his passes for 2,717 yards with 21 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.

Darnold is the unquestioned starter for the Vikings right now. If he slips up down the stretch, maybe Jones could eventually slide into the starting role, albeit that seems incredibly unlikely. Regardless, there's no bad blood or tension in the locker room.

When asked about Jones joining the roster, Darnold spoke highly about his new teammate.

“Signing DJ today, very happy to be teammates with him,” Darnold said, via ProFootballTalk. “Spent some time with him in the past. Great guy. He’s played a lot of football, so just to be able to draw from his experience in certain things is going to help this football team.”

Darnold has revitalized his career in Minnesota. Perhaps we'll see Jones do the same in the next year or so.

The Vikings are 9-2 heading into this Sunday's game against the Arizona Cardinals. They're right in the mix for the No. 1 seed in the NFC.
