Saquon Barkley Shares Why He'll 'Miss' AJ Brown

The A.J. Brown dust has settled, and the now-former Philadelphia Eagles wideout is a member of the New England Patriots.

But that doesn't mean he is forgotten in the Eagles locker room.

Star running back Saquon Barkley shared why Brown is one of his "favorite teammates" and why he will miss the wide receiver.

Barkley and Brown played two seasons together in Philadelphia, helping the Eagles win Super Bowl LIX over the Kansas City Chiefs in the 2024 season.

Brown, of course, was traded for two picks, including New England's 2028 first-rounder, on June 1.

Barkley spent two years playing against Brown and the Eagles after the wideout was traded from Tennessee to Philadelphia on 2022 draft night. But once he got to know the wideout, Barkley enjoyed their time together.

"I think A.J. Brown is one of my favorite teammates, one of my favorite people I’ve ever been around," Barkley told USA Today Sports. "I’m gonna miss him.

"A.J. is a heck of a player, a heck of a man. He’s going to be missed. But that’s football. You got to adapt."

Brown had four straight 1,000-plus-yard seasons in Philadelphia and scored 32 touchdowns in his four years. He became less effective as the years went on and had just 1,003 yards and seven touchdowns on 78 receptions over 15 games for the Eagles last season.

Barkley grew up an Eagles fan from Coplay, Pennsylvania, then went to Penn State, where he could follow the Eagles closely.

Yet, he was forced to go against his beloved Birds for his first six NFL seasons as a member of the rival New York Giants before he was finally able to go home after the 2023 NFL season.

So if anyone knows what Brown, a lifelong Patriots fan, was going through it is Barkley.

"I’m happy for him," Barkley said. "He’s at a spot he likes, and I know he’s been a Patriot fan for a long time."

Eagles players have had to answer questions about Brown all offseason and have done so gracefully. But Barkley now seems ready to move on to 2026 and help the Eagles get back to the Super Bowl, where they could see Brown on the other side.

"He’s got to do what’s best for him and his family," Barkley said. "We got to do what’s best for us."
