The Seattle Seahawks rolled to another convincing victory in Week 2, this time over the Arizona Cardinals, but the afternoon was not without a sour note.
Rookie running back Jadarian Price left the game with a chest injury after a promising start that had fantasy managers paying close attention.
Price had already shown he could handle a heavy workload before the injury stopped him. He finished with 13 carries for 52 yards and added one catch for eight yards.
A fumble earlier in the contest was the only real blemish on an otherwise productive outing. When he departed, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported the rookie was questionable to return. He did not come back.
The most encouraging update arrived after the game. Head coach Mike Macdonald told reporters that X-rays on Price’s chest came back negative.
“X-rays came back negative, so we’ll take it from there,” Macdonald said.
That result is a relief, yet it still leaves the Seahawks and Price’s fantasy owners in a wait-and-see mode as the team evaluates how quickly the rookie can return to practice and, eventually, the field.
This is not Price’s first health scare of the year. He spent a sizable portion of training camp dealing with a leg injury, so the chest issue marks a second setback in a very young NFL career.
For a player still trying to establish himself in a crowded backfield, consecutive injuries raise legitimate questions about his availability over the next few weeks.
In Price’s absence, Emanuel Wilson stepped into a larger role and delivered. Wilson led all rushers with 21 carries for 92 yards, giving the Seahawks a productive ground game even without their rookie.
Macdonald has spoken positively about the group’s depth since the season opener, noting that the runners were decisive and the team eliminated many negative plays. That depth now looks even more valuable.
Fantasy managers who rostered Price after his early-season usage will want to monitor the practice reports closely. If he is forced to miss time, Wilson becomes an obvious waiver-wire target.
Even if Price returns quickly, the chest injury plus his earlier camp setback could keep his snap count in check for a stretch.
The Seahawks appear well-equipped to keep the running game moving either way, but Price’s own trajectory just became more uncertain two weeks into his professional career.
