Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Demarcus Robinson was arrested early Monday morning on suspicion of DUI.
Robinson was pulled over by California Highway Patrol shortly after 5 a.m. Monday, hours after the Rams lost to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday Night Football. According to the police report, Robinson was driving "in excess of 100 miles per hour" on US-101 when he was stopped. Officers said the 30-year-old showed signs of impairment.
On Tuesday morning, Rams head coach Sean McVay spoke for the first time about Robinson's arrest, saying that the organization was still gathering information and had not made a decision yet on Robinson's status for this weekend's game.
“I do believe that Demarcus has a good heart and never would have any ill intentions and clearly there was a decision that’s not in alignment with the things we want to be about,” McVay said, via ESPN. “I know he was remorseful about that.
"I don't think this makes him a horrible human. I think he made a bad decision and I think we are fortunate that there weren't anything ... there wasn't anything else that occurred as it relates to affecting anybody else in a negative way or himself from just an overall safety and health perspective."
On Sunday night, Robinson caught two passes for 15 yards and a touchdown in the Rams' 37-20 loss. For the season, he has 26 receptions for 384 yards and six scores.
Should Robinson be suspended this week, it would potentially open more opportunities for Tutu Atwell, Tyler Johnson and Jordan Whittington behind stars Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua.
The Rams are 5-6 on the season and one game behind the Arizona Cardinals and Seattle Seahawks, who are tied atop the NFC West at 6-5
Los Angeles will be back in action this Sunday afternoon on the road at the New Orleans Saints at 4:05 p.m. ET.
