Shannon Sharpe takes shot at Jets QB Zach Wilson after benching

Hall of Famer Shannon Sharpe became the latest noteworthy member of the football community to take a shot at New York Jets quarterback Zach Wilson.

"Mike White threw for 300 yards. You look at those conditions — it wasn’t like it was 75 and sunny — and he was spinning like he was in a phone booth," Sharpe said during Monday's edition of FS1's "Undisputed," per Ryan Glasspiegel of the New York Post. "I’m sorry, Zach … you ain’t getting that job back unless Mike White [gets hurt], knock on wood."

White threw for 315 yards and three touchdowns in New York's 31-10 rout of the Chicago Bears with Wilson inactive for the contest.

Jets head coach Robert Saleh benched the 23-year-old after Wilson publicly refused to admit he and the offense failed the defense shortly after a 10-3 loss at the New England Patriots on Nov. 20.

"This is Mike White’s job, at least for [the rest of this] season," Sharpe continued. "He did a great job. He got guys involved. If you look at the offense, and how it looked compared to how it looked with Zach Wilson, it looked night and day different. Garrett Wilson and [Elijah] Moore had their best games of the season."

Sharpe added that Saleh "can’t force Zach Wilson" on teammates such as rookie wide receiver Garrett Wilson. Garrett Wilson caught a pair of touchdown passes thrown by White a week after the 22-year-old blasted his team's offense and passing game for the performance in New England.

ESPN stats show that Zach Wilson began Monday 34th among qualified quarterbacks with a 72.6 passer rating, 25th with a 44.1 total QBR and last with a 55.6% completion percentage this season. He recorded four touchdown passes and five interceptions in seven games before he was demoted to scout team duties and probably will again be a spectator when the 7-4 Jets play at the 9-2 Minnesota Vikings Sunday.
