Shedeur Sanders Struggles in Browns' Preseason Opener vs. Bears

"The right read; it just slipped," Sanders said after the game. "That's what makes me be mad a little bit because of [the interception]. I just didn't execute the decision, but the right decision was made."

Sanders did make the right read, since Corley was wide open on the dig route. Sanders' miss may have been caused by the pressure faced from reserve defensive tackle Jayden Loving, who beat Browns offensive lineman Jeremiah Byers up the middle, which is likely why the throw sailed.

Sanders didn't call out his offensive lineman or the pressure, but he chose to look on the bright side of things.

"Obviously, turning the ball over and all that stuff is not great, and it won't survive a long time in the league doing that," Sanders said. "But as long as my eyes and my feet and everything were in the right place, being able to execute it, it just may happen. So, I look at the positive of things. I'm alive, I'm breathing. I'm able to come up here and talk to y'all. So, I can't be that down."

Sanders had his moments, especially on the first drive. On his first play from scrimmage, he found Gage Larvadain on a well-thrown over route against a blitz for 24 yards.

On the next two plays, though, he fumbled a snap and then missed Larvadain. On third-and-13, he found tight end Luke Floriea for 35 yards to push the ball to the 5-yard line, before Ahmani Marshall was stopped on fourth-and-1.

Monken lauded Watson's first-half play, and he gave Sanders credit for coming in cold but also admitted he needs to be better.

"For Shedeur not to play the first half and to come right out and we open it up with a throw — hits Gage, I think, if I have it right — and then we get a big third down, and they go zero, and we block it up, and he hits our slot on a crossing route," Monken said. "Obviously, we didn't finish. Got to call it better. Got to coach better. Got to play better. But those are the things you're looking for."
