To quote Pittsburgh Steelers LB Patrick Queen, the Steelers' defense was "absolute trash" against the New York Jets in Week 1. 32 points was only the half of it, as they were manhandled en route to over 180 yards rushing and three touchdowns on the ground.
Whenever that happens, it means that the guys up front weren't doing their job. That, before the linebackers and or safeties could rally, the running back is already to the second and third level. But when asked about some potential changes in terms of personnel or alignment to combat said issue, Mike Tomlin wasn't going for it. . .
"No, there's no real strong consideration at moving people around at this juncture. Keeanu [Benton] is expected to get better from game one to game two like everyone else," said Tomlin when asked about moving Benton out of the nose. "I think it's a reasonable expectation. At least it is for me. I think once you've been in the stadium and you've played 60 minutes of football, you know something about yourselves that you didn't prior to going into it, and I think that knowledge, that experience individually and collectively, is a catalyst for improvement between game one and Game two."
To me, it's too early to shift Benton from nose tackle to a 3T or 5T kind of role. Yahya Black would be the more ideal fit for the nose, but he isn't a starter, and he's a rookie. What we need to see before any brash decisions are made, is how the line looks when Derrick Harmon returns from his knee injury. That won't be in Week 2, however.
I don’t know if it’s quite burn the tape level, but this happened all game to the #Steelers defense.

You can see in that clip that not only is there no push off the snap, but the Steelers' line completely gets caved in. They are blown off the ball. Mind you, this is against a Jets offense that struggled to run the ball last year, and on top of it, they didn't even have their best offensive lineman: Alijah Vera-Tucker.
So let's see what Week 2 holds. The Seattle Seahawks are going to bring an aggressive wide zone scheme under new OC Klint Kubiak. If it's more of the same, with what should be an identical lineup, then it will be time to have some real conversations about what happens next on the Steelers' defense.
