Stefon Diggs ‘Intrigued’ By Possibility Of Signing With Commanders

Last month, Diggs indicated he would be open to joining the Commanders. That would represent a homecoming for the Gaithersburg, Maryland native (especially one who, like in Diggs’ case, played collegiately at Maryland). Nothing firm has emerged on this front, but a deal with Washington remains something to watch for.

The Commanders are “intriguing” to Diggs as he weighs his free agent options, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler confirmed during a recent SportsCenter appearance (video link). As Fowler noted, Washington has frequently been mentioned as a candidate to make a veteran receiver addition throughout the offseason. A deal for Brandon Aiyuk long seemed logical, but it is far from certain if the much-maligned 49er will get his wish by heading to the nation’s capital.

Terry McLaurin is set to remain atop Washington’s receiver depth chart in 2026, and preparation for the coming season will not include contract talks like last year. McLaurin will of course hope to remain healthy this fall after injuries limited him to 10 games in 2025. Even so, stronger options to complement the two-time Pro Bowler could offer a boost as the Commanders seek a bounce-back performance on offense.

Washington selected Antonio Williams in third round of this year’s draft. The Clemson product figures to have a role early and often in his career, but it would come as little surprise if a veteran acquisition were to be made in the near future. Diggs – who recently deemed himself the league’s best No. 2 wideout – was said earlier this month to be drawing interest from at least five teams. It is still unclear which possible destinations have emerged, but Fowler’s latest report confirms his earlier one that five-plus suitors are in place for Diggs.

With nearly $44MM in cap space, the Commanders could certainly afford to make one or more notable additions this summer. It remains to be seen if that will include an effort to sign Diggs, but there is still interest on at least the player’s side in his case.
