Stephen A. Smith sends clear QB demand to Steelers

The Pittsburgh Steelers are heading into the season with a solid roster and talent on both sides of the ball, but there is still one question that remains. The quarterback position has been a concern for some years, but with Aaron Rodgers in the fold again this season, there shouldn’t be much concern. At the same time, Rodgers is not getting any younger, and he’s already announced that this will be his last and final season.

It doesn’t seem like the Steelers have a concrete plan after that, and Stephen A. Smith sent a message on First Take to the team in hopes that they’d figure it out.

“We’ve been saying the quarterback piece for over six years. Those of y’all who don’t play, you get paid to make these decisions. Find a d–n quarterback, and they haven’t been able to do that in many, many years,” Smith said.

The Steelers selected Drew Allar in the third round of the 2026 NFL Draft, but there’s no telling when he’ll actually get real playing time. Last season, they selected Will Howard in the draft, and between him and Mason Rudolph, they could be next in line as the starting quarterback next season if the Steelers don’t find another option.

As for this season, it looks like Mike McCarthy could keep four quarterbacks on the roster, and that might be the best thing to do when looking at trying to develop for the future.

Rodgers is going to give the Steelers all he can this season, and hopefully, they won’t have to rely on him too much to help them win games. The defense is still supposed to be one of the better groups in the league, and they could lead them to wins alone just by holding down their side.
