‘Stop Lying’: Deion Sanders Calls Out New York Giants For Shedeur Sanders Foolishness

Deion Sanders still has some bitterness over the pre-draft process this year. He watched his son, Shedeur Sanders, fall from his expected perch in the first round all the way until the Cleveland Browns selected him in the fifth round.

Multiple pre-draft reports made it sound like Sanders struggled during in-person interviews with multiple teams, especially the New York Giants. The most scandalous story was that Shedeur showed up unprepared, wearing headphones to meetings and answering FaceTime during meetings.

Deion Sanders: Stop lying

During a recent appearance on “Said What Needs To Be Said with Asante Samuel,” Deion told the former NFL cornerback that he believed the reports were lies.

And stop lying,” Deion said. “Like, you got to understand, my kids are built for everything… And you’re not going to catch them in no foolery and no mess. You’re not going to do that whatsoever. So when you sit up there and say something like, he went in a meeting unprepared, like, dude, Shedeur Sanders, who’s had six different coordinators, who has still functioned and went up, leveled up every time we brought somebody new in.

“And you’re going to tell me he was a professional. You’re going to tell me he had on headphones. Shedeur, anybody know my son, I understand he’s a professional. Like, he’s going to go into a meeting with headphones on. Like, y’all, come on, man.”

Deion didn’t call out the Giants specifically, but it’s clear someone from within their organization leaked the story of Shedeur’s interview with head coach Brian Daboll and his staff. Deion believes “foolish stuff” went on before April’s draft with Shedeur.

“But you know, the Bible says God uses the foolish things to confound the wise. So it was some foolish stuff that went on.”

Deion believes that the slide into the fifth round will motivate Shedeur to become the best quarterback he can be in the league, like when Tom Brady was taken in the sixth round of the 2020 draft.

Shedeur has his work cut out for him in Cleveland, as the Browns have five quarterbacks on the roster. He’ll need to beat out veterans Joe Flacco, former first-round pick Kenny Pickett, rookie Dillon Gabriel, and Deshaun Watson (if he returns from his Achilles injury) during training camp.
