Since the end of the 2024 regular season, Dolphins All-Pro wide receiver Tyreek Hill has been rumored to be on the move, thanks largely to his own doing.
Given the structure of the three-year, $90 Million deal he signed with Miami in 2024, it may make sense for the Dolphins, if they so choose, to part ways with the speedy wideout.
"Given the realities of Hill’s contract (re-done in 2024), it makes sense for the Dolphins to hold Hill until June 2 or later. That’s when the cap consequences can be spread over two years." Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio wrote on Saturday.
"For now, Hill has $28.296 million in unallocated bonus money that will hit the cap. A pre-June 1 trade means all of it lands in 2025. A post-June 1 trade limits the 2025 dead money to $12.728 million, with the remaining $15.568 million landing on the cap in 2026."
Among the contenders Florio suggested that "should at least ponder" a trade for Hill include the Baltimore Ravens, Los Angeles Chargers, San Francisco 49ers, Chicago Bears, and Houston Texans.
With Tank Dell expected to miss the 2025 season with an injury, the Texans loaded up at the wide receiver position this offseason, trading for Christian Kirk, signing veterans Justin Watson and Braxton Berrios, and drafting Iowa State duo Jayden Higgins and Jaylin Noel.
In mid-April, Dolphins GM Chris Greer suggested the team would consider trading Hill but only for "two first round picks." Last season, Hill failed to reach 1,000 receiving yards (81 receptions, 959 yards) for the first time since 2019, when he missed time with a shoulder injury.
While it seems doubtful a team would offer a pair of first-rounders for Hill, the Texans would likely have to part ways with one of their veteran receivers and more to acquire the 31-year-old wideout.
Plus, there's the issue of taking on Hill's contract, which pays out a fully guaranteed $25.85 Million this season.
