The tight ends came to play in Week 5, with 15 players having double-digit fantasy points and 18 having at least 9 points. It has been a slow climb to prominence as it pertains to fantasy. A slow start had owners nervous about the longevity of the position, but now it seems like fantasy owners are all on the waiver wire hunt for a tight end. Superstars have produced while the majority of the time, it actually has been the unknowns that make these pickups hard.

Top Three Tight End Pickups for Week 6

Colts TE Mo Alie-Cox

While the Colts are without young quarterback Anthony Richardson, Joe Flacco has taken the offense to new heights. For the second straight year, when Richardson is not the starting quarterback, that means the offense starts to play better. Flacco has always been a tight end-friendly quarterback, especially as it pertains to tight end red zone targets. Alie-Cox had 2 catches for 27 yards and a touchdown on 4 targets in Week 5e against the Jaguars.

While it is a high risk to start him, those statistics were all season highs by a lot. Flacco always looks for the biggest targets down close to the goal line and Alie-Cox is the best option for the Colts as it pertains to that. This might be my biggest risk for this week but the ceiling is high because Alie-Cox has shown over the years that can get in the end zone. Tight ends are mostly touchdown dependent and this player could provide you with that all-important 6 extra fantasy points.

Dolphins TE Jonnu Smith

The Dolphins have one of the most unwatchable offenses in the sport at the moment. Without Tua Tagovailoa, the Dolphins struggle to put points on the board. But one of the rare bright spots has been the new free agent acquisition, Jonnu Smith. Smith has always gone under the radar throughout his career but he is certainly a reliable target.

This past week, Smith got 11.1 fantasy points as he had 5 catches for 61 yards on 8 targets. With Tyler Huntley at quarterback, he seems to not able to get the ball down the field and Smith has been a great check-down target for Miami.

Smith has had two double-digit fantasy performances this year. If this tight end is still available in any fantasy leagues, that is a major problem that needs to be fixed. Smith is worth the pickup with or without Tagovailoa.

Browns TE Jordan Akins

The Cleveland Browns have been the most disappointing offense in 2024. Deshaun Watson looks like a bottom-five quarterback and without Nick Chubb, the run game also hasn’t gotten going. The Browns do have a known commodity at tight end with David Njoku, but he is one of the more injury-prone players in football.

Jordan Akins is the number two tight end for the Browns which makes him valuable. For one, you never know when Njoku will be inactive. Secondly, the Browns are struggling mightily to get the ball down the field, which means more opportunities for Browns tight ends.

This past week even with Njoku active, Akins had 3 catches for 22 yards and a touchdown. If owners want to start him now or in the future, this is a great pickup due to the starting tight end for the Browns seemingly never on the field.
