Tom Brady wasn't main reason Rob Gronkowski unretired

While the desire to play with Tom Brady once again has always been there, Rob Gronkowski decided to come out of retirement and play for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for a different reason.

The three-time Super Bowl champion admitted that although Brady did have some influence in getting him to suit up again, someone near and dear to his heart was his real reason for requesting a trade to Tampa.

Gronkowski revealed it during an interview with Ellen DeGeneres, according to Sports Illustrated's Devon Clements:

"You know, everyone keeps asking me 'Did Tom (Brady) get you to Tampa?' Well, of course it didn't hurt that Tom went to Tampa, you know, and the opportunity to go to Tampa was there too. But you know, Tom was like the appetizer, and then there's a few other reasons. I love the weather. But the main course, the main reason why I came down to Tampa to play is because my mother lives two hours away. She can get to all the games, all eight of our home games. Whenever I have days off, she's two hours down the street and I get to see her. So she's super excited."

Gronkowski's mother will likely get to see more than just regular-season football too, as the Buccaneers currently have the fifth-best odds to win Super Bowl LV on their home turf at Raymond James Stadium, according to BetOnline. The Buccaneers have a lot of work to do to get to that point, but Brady already has begun offseason workouts with his new teammates. There's nothing Tampa can't accomplish if it plays its cards right, and it'll certainly be interesting if Brady leads the Buccaneers all the way to the playoffs for the first time since 2007 and possibly the Super Bowl.
