Vic Fangio Provides Update on Eagles' Key Offseason Addition

The Phialdelphia Eagle made a major splash over the offseason by trading for edge rusher Jonathan Greenard from the Minnesota Vikings.

Unfortunately for Philadelphia, a pectoral injury has delayed Greenard’s Eagles debut as he was sidelined for the first two games of the season. But, he could be moving closer to making his debut for the franchise.

Vic Fangio Says Jonathan Greenard Not Ready for Full Workload

During his weekly session with media members, Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio provided an update on Greenard that was kind of a good news-bad news situation. The good news is that Fangio said that Greenard could potentially play in Week 3 against the Chicago Bears on Monday Night Football, but he also said that the 2024 Pro Bowler isn’t ready for a full workload. So, if he does play against Chicago, it will likely be in a limited capacity.

“Better chance than last week,” Fangio said of Greenard’s chances of playing. “We’ll see how he does in practice. …He’s definitely not ready for a full workload. He’s not only coming off inactivity, he’s coming off an injury. His injury for a good bit — the first, I don’t know, four to six, seven weeks — he really couldn’t do a whole lot conditioning wise either. So yeah, he’s nowhere near ready for a full load.”

Greenard will likely have to work his way into game shape after a period of inactivity, but at least he’s moving towards a return. The Eagles were optimistic about what he can bring to the pass rush when they traded for him, and that remains the case.

Jonathan Greenard Itching to get onto the Field for the Eagles

Understandably, Greenard is itching to get out onto the field and prove to the Eagles that the 4-year, $98 million contract extension that they signed him to was a wise investment.

“Nobody wants to be out there more than I do,” Greenard said ahead of Philadelphia’s Week 2 matchup with the Titans in Tennessee. However, he also added that he wants to be at his best when he finally takes the field.

“I’m not just going to be out there to just hold up a block and do my job. I need to go in there and dominate,” Greenard said. “And that’s kind of my whole mindset since I got it. So, until I get back to that, you ain’t going to see me out there.”

Greenard is clearly eager to make a major impact for Philadelphia. Now we just have to wait and see when he’ll actually be able to do so.
