What AJ Brown doesn’t like about Drake Maye’s situation

Training camp is underway for the New England Patriots, and Drake Maye has some new wide receivers to build chemistry with, including AJ Brown. While Brown is seemingly excited for his new opportunity in New England, he opened up about the one thing he doesn’t like about how the coaching staff is treating Maye early on in training camp.

During a guest appearance on “Zolak and Bertrand,” a popular Boston-based sports radio show on 985 The Sports Hub, the 29-year-old wide receiver jokingly admitted he doesn’t like how the Patriots are limiting how many throws Maye makes during practices. His comment got a roar of laughs from hosts Scott Zolak, Marc Bertrand, and Tim McKone.

“They’re not really letting him throw the ball right now, so I don’t really like that,” Brown said about his initial impressions of Maye.

The good news is that it’s early in training camp and AJ Brown will have plenty of opportunities to catch balls from Drake Maye. From the sounds of it, the Patriots are slowly working Maye into the offseason program to ensure he does not suffer any unnecessary injuries.

Brown joins New England after playing the past four seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles. After his frustration boiled over, Philly eventually decided it was time to part ways with the three-time Pro Bowler. Brown finished last season with 78 receptions for 1,003 yards and seven touchdowns.

Drake Maye is likely jumping with joy after the Patriots added much-needed help to the wide receiver room. He’ll be throwing the ball to not just AJ Brown, but also Romeo Doubs, Mack Hollins, Kayshon Boutte, and DeMario Douglas.
