While speaking with reporters on Thursday, Dallas Cowboys star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb acknowledged that he has "dwelled on" the fact that he dropped multiple catchable passes in Dallas' 24-20 Week 1 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles back on Sept. 4.
Lamb also revealed that he texted Dak Prescott to tell his starting quarterback that he wasn't to blame for what went wrong at Philadelphia's Lincoln Financial Field.
"I came up short on my end, but just trust me. Stay with me and I got you," Lamb texted Prescott, per Todd Archer of ESPN.
Prescott responded with a promise to his top target.
"I'm not going to stop throwing you the ball," Prescott told Lamb.
The Cowboys signed Lamb to a four-year, $136M deal last summer with the hope that he would shine on the biggest stages and in the biggest moments. Most recently, he and the Dallas offense received a bit of a break when Eagles defensive tackle Jalen Carter got himself ejected for spitting on Prescott before the signal-caller took the first snap of the Week 1 contest.
Without having to worry about Carter's presence, Dallas completed back-to-back touchdown drives and two straight field-goal drives against Philadelphia in the first half. The Cowboys then had an opportunity to win the game in the final minutes when Lamb committed a pair of costly drops, the last of which occurred on a fourth down.
"It wasn't the best day," Prescott said about Lamb's performance against the reigning Super Bowl champions. "It wasn't the best day for CeeDee. It's understandable. It happens. Hell, I've had them, right? We've all had them. ...I'm not going to lose confidence in [Lamb]. And so don't worry, just keep approaching the way that you're approaching, and you're going to have a bounce-back and many of them."
The Cowboys will have an opportunity to bounce back in a big way when they host the 0-1 New York Giants this coming Sunday. As of Friday morning, ESPN Bet had Dallas as a 5.5-point favorite for that matchup.
"Just relax. Take a deep breath," Lamb added about his mindset ahead of Week 2. "Let the game come to me, and then when it does, take over. It's obviously simple to say and harder to do, but for me, I feel like if I keep it that simple, it'll work out."
