9 Michigan State Hockey Players Earn Team Honors

Junior Isaac Howard received the Ron Mason Most Valuable Player and Outstanding Offensive Player award. The Wisconsin native was described as having the greatest offensive season over the last three decades, earning the Hobey Baker Memorial Award. He scored 52 points on 26 goals and 26 assists, leading the nation with 1.41 points per game.

Howard also earned Big Ten Player of the Year and first-team All-Big Ten honors, as well as Big Ten Tournament Most Outstanding Player honors. 

Junior Matt Basgall received second-team All-America honors, first-team All-Big Ten recognition, and was a finalist for the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year. In his career, Basgall has six goals, 20 assists, and 26 points, and he has blocked 45 shots. He also earned the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award and was voted to the Big Ten All-Tournament Team, as he helped Michigan State win a second consecutive B1G tournament title. 

Senior Tanner Kelly, in the 2024-25 year, played in all 37 games with an 8-9-17 scoring line. Kelly also earned a game-winning goal and won 63% of his faceoffs as well as contributing 58 points, 24 goals, and 35 assists, and finishing his career with a +14 with 40 blocked shots. 

Senior David Gucciardi was given the Goofus award, and with the Spartans, he has an overall career of six goals, 10 assists, 18 points, as well as having 10 penalties and 39 blocked shots. In 2022, Gucciardi was selected in the  NHL Entry draft in the seventh round by the Washington Capitals.
