The Penguins extended the series and sent it back to Philadelphia after beating the Flyers 3-2 in Game 5.
For the third straight game, the Flyers fell behind in the first period. Once again chasing the game instead of playing with the lead.
Unlike Game 3, it was another two goal deficit the Flyers needed to comeback from. Which, once again, proved to be too much.
Alex Bump made his playoff debut in place of the struggling Matvei Michkov. Multiple reasons could be said as to why Michkov sat, obvious being the size and physicality catching up to the young Russian.
Bump was the best Flyer on the ice tonight. He scored his first career goal playoff goal and a game high nine shot attempts.
Travis Sanheim tied the game late in the second period. It was his second goal of the series.
Dan Vladar made all the necessary saves in this one to give the Flyers a chance. It was another bad bounce that costed him the ultimate game winner.
His two ten bell saves in the third period, 24 seconds in on Bryan Rust and with 6:04 remaining on Ben Kindel, kept the Penguins lead at one. But, the Flyers couldn’t get a third goal by Arturs Silovs for a second straight game.
The major talking point, yet again, was focused on the officiating. For the second straight game, the Flyers were on the wrong end of another poorly officiated game.
Another Flyers helmet was ripped off. Travis Sanheim took an upper-cut from Anthony Mantha. Assistant coach Jaroslav Svejkovsky almost to a puck to the face from Evgeni Malkin well after the whistle.
The common theme between them all? None were whistled for a penalty.
Penguins coach Dan Muse called out the officiating after the Flyers 5-2 win in Game 3. Since, the officiating has massively favored the Penguins.
Game 6 is Wednesday night at Xfinity Mobile Arena. Start time is still to be determined.
