Brindley had been scheduled to become a restricted free agent after this season, but will now remain under contract with Colorado through the 2027-28 season. The financial details of the extension are still unknown.
The Fort Myers, Florida native has put up three goals and two assists for five points in 14 games for the Avalanche this season, while averaging just shy of nine minutes of ice time per game.
Colorado acquired Brindley this past offseason from the Columbus Blue Jackets, in a trade that saw the Avalanche get Brindley and two draft picks in exchange for forwards Charlie Coyle and Miles Wood.
Brindley spent all of last season with the AHL’s Cleveland Monsters, where he tallied six goals and 11 assists for 17 points in 52 games.
Columbus initially drafted the 5’8″ Brindley 34th overall in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft. Before joining the Blue Jackets organization, Brindley spent two years in the NCAA for the University of Michigan. In the 2023-24 season, Brindley’s last as a Wolverine, he scored 25 goals and added 28 assists for 53 points in just 40 games. In the 2022-23 season, he recorded 12 goals and 26 assists for 38 points in 41 games.
The Avalanche have gotten off to a tremendous start this season. They have just one regulation loss in 16 games so far, and their 25 points and plus-22 goal differential both lead the entire NHL.
Colorado kicks off a four-game homestand Tuesday when they take on the Anaheim Ducks. They’ll then host the Buffalo Sabres on Thursday and the New York Islanders next Sunday.
