Erie County executive Mark Poloncarz requested the NHL postpone the game as the area surrounding KeyBank Center is currently under a driving ban. Wednesday's forecast calls for more snow in Buffalo, which would've made travel conditions dangerous.
Buffalo is no stranger to postponements due to winter storms. Over the weekend, the Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Buffalo Bills NFL wild-card game at Highmark Stadium was moved from Sunday to Monday.
Now, the Blackhawks will get a day of rest before visiting the Sabres. Chicago played Tuesday, recording a 2-1 shootout win over the San Jose Sharks.
Thursday's game marks the second meeting between the Blackhawks and Sabres this season. Buffalo won the first contest 3-2 on Nov. 19 in Chicago.
