Brad Marchand signed a long-term deal in Florida this summer, but now there has been speculation that he may end his career with the Anaheim Ducks.
This past season was a whirlwind for Brad Marchand, as he joined the Florida Panthers via trade before helping them go on an impressive Stanley Cup run, winning their second straight.
In that post-season run, Marchand tallied 10 goals and 20 points in 23 games played, and this off-season, he showed his loyalty to the team by signing a six-year deal that will most likely be his last in the National Hockey League.
On the latest edition of First Up on TSN, analysts Carlo Colaiacovo and Matthew Cauz discussed the contract and Marchand's future, with the latter making a major prediction on the veteran.
'Brad is not finishing his career in Florida. No way he's going to finish in Anaheim. That's my prediction. Brad Marchand, Anaheim Duck, 2029. Count it.'
Signing a six-year deal at 38-years of age isn't something that's done often in the NHL, and while the Panthers will benefit from the first few years of that deal, he's likely to be moved after that.
Cauz believes it will be the Ducks that end up getting the final few years of his deal, but given the expectations from the Panthers heading into the first year of his new contract, it's unclear exactly how things will end up playing out.
Ultimately, the Ducks have made sense as a team that will take on salary dumps for years now, but if they can build themselves into a successful team in the coming few years, this prediction makes absolutely no sense, and given how unpredictable the NHL is, it's quite the strange thing to try and predict.
