The move is definitely shocking for the Golden Knights. The team only has eight games left this season and sits at third place in the Pacific Division, four points safe in the playoff picture.
The Golden Knights have had some up and down moments this year, but they particularly struggle in overtime. The team has a 32-26-16 record, which is tied for the second-most overtime losses behind the Los Angeles Kings. The team is also 3-7 in their last 10 games, including back-to-back overtime losses.
Cassidy has spent the last four years as head coach for the Golden Knights. He finishes with a 178-99-43 record, including leading the team to its first-ever Stanley Cup in 2023. Cassidy should be a top candidate for teams this offseason.
