Bruins’ Navrin Mutter Placed On Waivers

The Boston Bruins placed Navrin Mutter on waivers today, insider Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports. An organizational depth forward, it can be assumed that the motivation for today’s transaction is moving the 25-year-old on to camp with the AHL’s Providence Bruins.

Undrafted out of the OHL as a moderate producer with a career high of 22 points in juniors, where he was teammates with NHLers such as Mason McTavish and Arber Xhekaj with the Hamilton Bulldogs, Mutter has impressively managed to stick around in the AHL over the past several years. Acquired by the Bruins organization last March from Nashville in exchange for Massimo Rizzo and Dalton Bancroft, neither of whom were eventually brought back by the Predators, Mutter made enough of an impression in 16 total regular and postseason games to earn a one-year extension over the summer with the Bruins.

Mutter found the back of the net once with Providence, but at 6’3″, 213 lbs, he is a modern day enforcer as evidenced by his 91 penalty minutes in 40 games with the Milwaukee Admirals in 2024-25. Able to bring physicality with his strong work ethic, Mutter has a meaningful role to take on after a transitional off-season in Providence. A team which won over 50 games last year only to fall flat in the opening round against the Springfield Thunderbirds in a shocking upset, the Bruins have made several changes across coaching, front office, and of course the roster itself.

While it would have been nice for Mutter to have a chance to put on the B’s sweater and get into a pre-season game with the big club, due to the shortened schedule before the NHL regular season takes off, he’s expectedly on to the AHL as a welcome addition for the Rhode Island club.
