Canucks’ Boeser to represent Team USA at IIHF World Championships: report

Boeser, 29, is coming off his worst season since the 2021-22 season. The Burnsville, Minnesota native scored 22 goals and 26 assists for 48 points in 75 games, while averaging over 19 minutes for the third time in his career. Boeser’s totals had him second on the team in goals, trailing only Jake DeBrusk (23), and third in points, trailing Elias Pettersson (51) and Filip Hronek (48).

The right winger also finished with a league-worst minus-48 rating, and by a considerable margin. Boeser was a minus-seven rating ahead of Chicago Blackhawks defenceman Artyom Levshunov, and 15 clear of MacKenzie Weegar and teammate Zeev Buium for third and fourth.

In 2015-16, Boeser represented Team USA at the U20 World Junior Championships, where he scored one goal and two assists for three points in seven games en route to a Bronze Medal. This will be Boeser’s first time playing at the IIHF World Championships for Team USA.

Last year, the Canucks had Filip Hronek, Marcus Pettersson, Drew O’Connor, and Conor Garland all represent their country at the 2025 IIHF World Championships. Pettersson and Team Sweden eliminated Hronek and Team Czechia 5-2 in the Quarter Finals, only to be knocked out in the next round by O’Connor, Garland, and Team USA for a berth to the finals. O’Connor and Garland went on to win the Gold Medal after defeating Team Switzerland 1-0 in overtime. Pettersson and Sweden won the Bronze Medal over Team Denmark by a 6-2 scoreline.

It has already been reported that young defencemen Zeev Buium (USA) and Tom Willander (Sweden) will not be participating in the tournament. The World Championships kick off on May 15 and run until May 31.
