While we don’t know what kind of form Elias Pettersson will be in for the 2025-26 season, we now know that he’ll at least be healthy.
The Vancouver Canucks center spoke with the NHL Sverige’s Peter Ekholm on Wednesday about his offseason, and how he feels heading into the season. And thankfully for the Canucks, he’s feeling great.

“I have been healthy and have been able to train fully,” said Pettersson in the article, translated from his native language of Swedish. “Right now I have not had any injuries that have kept me away from training. But it is clear, it was a tough season. But with that said, I am taking the lessons with me. I am just very hungry to have a good season to come.”
Petersson struggled significantly in 2024-25, partially due to the injuries that he had to deal with throughout the season. He had an undisclosed injury midway through the season and then missed the final 12 games of the year with an oblique injury. It’s unclear if the undisclosed injury was related to the oblique injury he dealt with later.
“I’ve put on a little (muscle),” said Pettersson. “It’s always about building basic strength that will turn into speed and agility, speed on the ice. Putting on a few pounds, getting stronger in general is always the goal. But for me it’s always a little bonus to put on a few pound.”
Pettersson will hope for a significant bounce back from 2024-25, which saw him get just 15 goals and 30 assists for 45 points in 64 games. It’s his lowest output ever in a non-shortened season, and even then, he still produced more in the abbreviated 2019-20 season.
“I know what I can do,” said Pettersson. “I haven’t actually thought about it, but for my part I want revenge. I’m not happy with the season that was. But it’s done now. There’s no point in dwelling on it. I’m learning from what happened last season to become a better and more mature player for next year.”
Pettersson will also not have to deal with off-ice issues in 2025-26, as after a reported feud between him and center J.T. Miller, the Canucks dealt Miller to the New York Rangers. That may have also played a role in his struggles in 2024-25.
Pettersson will be entering the second year of an eight-year contract with an $11.6 million cap hit this season.
