According to head coach Spencer Carbery, center Pierre-Luc Dubois is going to be out for an extended period of time. The coach shared with the media that the team is still evaluating whether Dubois needs surgery, but the forward won’t be back for some time, regardless.

Dubois will undergo more testing before a decision is made.

Carbery said losing Dubois for an extended period creates “a huge hole” for the team. He noted that other players will have to step up to fill it. Carbery added:

“It’s a huge hole. Arguably right up there last year with one of most valuable and most important players on our roster. I’m not going to sit here and sugarcoat it and say that you can replace him at this point in the year. BUT you can still can be a good.”

When asked, Cabery said the Capitals will not be utilizing Aliaksei Protas at center with Dubois out. He noted that it wouldn’t be fair to the player to ask him to suddenly switch positions.
