The Arizona Coyotes officially unveiled the new third jersey they’ll wear in 14 games this season.

Nicknamed “Desert Night,” the jersey was designed by the team’s creative strategist Rhuigi Villaseñor and features elements from the Coyotes' usual Kachina jerseys on the bottom and arms. The burgundy-colored jersey uses a sand-brown color for its striping and wordmark, and the team said it will use a half-moon for its “C,” if the team names a captain in the future.

The team will wear burgundy helmets and gloves to compliment the new uniform.

“My inspiration for the third jersey came from the environment, the community, the colors, and the clay – roots of the AZ Culture. I feel honored to pioneer with the Coyotes the reimagining of the sport alongside culture and design,” Villaseñor said in a statement on the Coyotes website.

This will be the first alternate the team has worn that wasn’t a repurposed jersey from the past since 2014, when the team used the black-based design with a burgundy coyote on the front. The Coyotes last used the burgundy third with the Coyote head as an alternate last season after it was replaced as the main home jersey with the black and green Kachina look. The Coyotes have an orange-based jersey for the team’s current reverse retro.

The Coyotes will first wear the new design against the Vegas Golden Knights on Jan. 22 before wearing it twice in February. They will use it for 14 of the team’s next 25 home games to close out the season at Mullet Arena, where the team holds a positive 8-6-2 record this season.

The Coyotes are firmly in the Connor Bedard race for the first overall pick and currently have the fifth-best odds behind Columbus, Anaheim, Chicago and Montreal.
