Lynden McCallum began his junior hockey career with the Brandon Wheat Kings of the Western Hockey League. In his final WHL McCallum made a strong impression. He led the league in goals at one point, scoring 21 goals in just 22 games while serving as an assistant captain.
McCallum turned pro in the 2021–22 season, signing a one-year AHL contract with the Henderson Silver Knights after a stint on a professional tryout. While he had limited playing time in the AHL, his ECHL debut was much more productive. That season, he joined the Fort Wayne Komets and quickly made an impact, recording 17 goals and 15 assists for 32 points in just 36 games.
Following his strong rookie ECHL season, McCallum spent the 2022–23 season with the Savannah Ghost Pirates. While he played fewer games, he still managed to tally three goals and seven assists. Though his production dipped from his rookie season, he remained a reliable depth scorer and continued to earn opportunities.
In 2023, McCallum joined the Idaho Steelheads. He played 22 games in the 2023–24 season and registered six goals and five assists. The Steelheads re-signed him for the 2024–25 season, during which he put up nine goals and seven assists for 16 points in 28 games before being traded mid-season to the Maine Mariners. His offensive touch and physical style of play made him a good fit for the Mariners, who were looking to add depth and experience.
Shawn Element developed his game in the QMJHL, where he played from 2016 to 2021 with several teams. Over the course of his junior career, he appeared in 274 regular-season games, putting up 89 goals and 81 assists for a total of 170 points.
In May 2021, Element signed a two-year AHL contract with the Syracuse Crunch. While he spent a good portion of his time with the Crunch, he also gained valuable experience in the ECHL, particularly with the Orlando Solar Bears. Element’s most notable ECHL stint came during the 2021–22 season when he was assigned to the Solar Bears. In just 14 games, he managed to score four goals and add five assists for nine points.
In the 2024–25 season, Element signed an AHL contract with the Ontario Reign. He appeared in 64 regular-season games, recording nine goals and five assists for 14 points. Along the way, he logged 35 penalty minutes. Element also suited up for two playoff games.
Whether in the AHL or ECHL, Shawn Element continues to play with determination and grit, carving out a career through hard work and consistent effort. He could be a great roster fit for Maine.
Along with these signings, the Mariners will be losing a member to the collegiate scene. Owen Pederson will be playing with the University of Alberta in USports for the 2025-2026 season.
