
The Edmonton Oilers today acquired 32-year-old defenseman Connor Murphy from the Chicago Blackhawks. The Oilers are sending a second-round pick in the 2028 NHL Entry Draft. The Blackhawks are also reportedly retaining half of Murphy’s $4.4 million contract. Murphy is a free agent after this season. The trade is expected to be completed following a trade call tonight. The Oilers today also moved forward Mattias Janmark to LTIR as he will be out indefinitely due to a chronic injury. Murphy, this season in 60 games, has 13 points on four goals and nine assists. He’s a minus-three with 87 blocked shots and 62 total hits.

The Phoenix Coyotes drafted Murphy 20th overall in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. The Boston, Massachusetts native spent four seasons with the Coyotes, where in 258 games he had 49 points on 13 goals and 36 assists. He was a -30 with 438 blocked shots and 557 total hits. He was then traded to the Chicago Blackhawks on June 23, 2017. He’s spent the last nine seasons with Chicago, appearing in 547 games, recording 124 points on 34 goals and 90 assists. He’s a -36 with 1,123 blocked shots and 1,077 total hits. In 805 career games, he has 173 points on 47 goals and 126 assists. He’s a -66 with 1,561 blocked shots and 1,077 total hits. In nine career Stanley Cup Playoff games, he has four assists, is a minus-one, with 17 blocked shots, and 20 total hits.
