The Edmonton Oilers have just announced that they’ve signed defenseman Cam Dineen to a two-year, two-way contract extension with an average annual value (AAV) of $775,000. Dineen, who stands at 5’11” and weighs 188 lbs, is 25 years old. He had an impressive season with the AHL’s Bakersfield Condors, playing 58 games and racking up five goals and 20 assists for a total of 25 points. Among Bakersfield defensemen, he ranked third in both assists and points.
Acquired by the Oilers from the Arizona Coyotes last season in the Nick Bjugstad, and Michael Kesselring deal. Dineen, who hails from Toms River, New Jersey, has played 284 career AHL games over six seasons with Tucson and Bakersfield. During this time, he scored 25 goals and assisted in 122 others. Dineen began his professional career as a third-round selection (68th overall) of the Coyotes in 2016. He also made his NHL debut during the 2021-22 season, playing 34 games for the Arizona Coyotes (now the Utah HC) and tallying seven assists. It’s great to see the Oilers investing in the future and depth, and Dineen may be called up from Bakersfield at some point this upcoming season!
The upcoming offseason will be crucial for the Edmonton Oilers, as they will have a new General Manager soon, with Ken Holland confirming that he is no longer staying GM. The team will have limited cap space to work with and will need to decide which pending Unrestricted Free Agents (UFAs) to retain soon. The list of UFAs includes Connor Brown, Mattias Janmark, Warren Foegele, Corey Perry, Adam Henrique, Sam Gagner, Troy Stecher, Vincent Desharnais, Sam Carrick, Adam Erne, Greg Mckegg, and backup goalie Calvin Pickard. Management will have to make tough decisions on which players to keep ahead of July 1st. Below is a list of the UFAs, RFAs, and future 2024 Draft Picks:
