Blake Wheeler spent most of his career with the Winnipeg Jets, but after retirement, he's joining the New York Rangers in an interesting front office role.

For a long time, Blake Wheeler was a staple of the Winnipeg Jets, making history as one of the most productive players in this iteration of the iconic Canadian organization.

Before he retired from the National Hockey League however, Wheeler departed for one year, joining the New York Rangers in what would turn out to unfortunately be a very injury prone season.

Wheeler gets new role in New York

Post retirement, many expected him to find a role in hockey somewhere, and now reporter Vince Mercogliano has revealed exactly that, noting that Wheeler now has a role in the Rangers front office.

According to Mercogliano, Wheeler has taken on a role as an advisor in the hockey operations department, and while that doesn't reveal exactly what his role will be, given the amount of experience he has in the NHL, it makes sense that he could thrive in a role like this.

The 39-year old may have played just 54 games in New York, but he was clearly a very popular person, not just in the locker room but with the organization as well, and now he'll be tasked with providing key insight into how this Rangers team builds for the future.

Given the success he had in the NHL, it will be exciting to see just how Wheeler fares in this new role, as he has the knowledge and the experience to be a very productive, with the long-time Jet now finding a new home after his playing career.
