The Vegas Golden Knights placed captain Mark Stone on injured reserve retroactive to Nov. 7. Vegas also placed defenseman Ben Hutton on long-term injured reserve. Hutton is week to week with an upper-body injury. The team also loaned forward Victor Olofsson to Henderson Silver Knights for a conditioning stint.
In corresponding moves, the Golden Knights called up forwards Callahan Burke and Mason Morelli from Henderson of the American Hockey League. Burke has six points in 11 games with the Silver Knights, while Morelli has nine points in 13 games.
The Golden Knights are set to start a five-game road trip in Toronto against the Maple Leafs on Wednesday. Vegas head coach Bruce Cassidy hinted the team would revert to its standard 12 forwards and six defensemen lineup after going 11-7 in its last two games.
“We will certainly be more conventional,” Cassidy said after the Golden Knights’ 5-2 loss to the Washington Capitals on Sunday. “This was a little bit the exception to the rule the last couple games. I would anticipate we’ll be 12-6 in Toronto.”
Stone has been out of the lineup since sustaining a lower-body injury in the team’s 4-2 victory against the Edmonton Oilers on Nov. 6. He’s missed the last four games, and Cassidy was uncertain if he would make the trip with the team.
That said, Stone is eligible to come off IR at any point now, but he is unlikely to play Wednesday. On the positive side for Vegas, Stone has been skating individually and was in a red no-contact jersey on Monday. He did not participate in the team’s skate.
Stone is second on the team in points (21) and assists (15).
Defenseman Nicolas Hague participated in the team’s Monday practice in a red no-contact jersey, signaling a return is on the horizon.
Hague has been out since Nov. 3 with a lower-body injury. The next steps for Hague would be to practice in full contact and await trainers to clear him for game action. It was also unsure if Hague would make the trip with the team, but a return seems nearing for the defenseman.
