Golden Knights prospect suffers rough injury setback

The Vegas Golden Knights have rarely relied on their farm system when it comes to finding impact players.

While homegrown talents such as Pavel Dorofeyev and Kaedan Korczak have found success in Vegas, most of the team’s big-ticket players have come outside the organization. The strategy certainly puts the Golden Knights at risk of falling off further down the road, but it has worked for them so far. That said, adding an infusion of youth is never too bad of an idea, and the Golden Knights could be looking to add something like that soon.

Unfortunately, one player that the team was hoping to make the leap sometime soon has had his timeline pushed back.

The top prospect in the Golden Knights’ system appears to have sustained a serious injury.

Participating for Team USA at the World Junior Summer Showcase, forward Trevor Connelly took what appeared to be a knee-on-knee hit and had to be helped off of the ice after being unable to put any weight on his right leg.

If Connelly has to miss an extended period of time, that would be a serious blow to both him and the Golden Knights.

Expected to start this upcoming season with the AHL Henderson Silver Knights, Connelly put up one goal and four points in his first taste of professional hockey. While his skill and offensive acumen are expected to remain unchanged, it would be a point of concern if Connelly’s skating is affected.

Hopefully, everything checks out and Connelly’s injury scare looks worse than it actually is.
