According to a team announcement, the Utah Mammoth recalled defenseman Artem Duda from the AHL’s Tucson Roadrunners. In a corresponding roster move, Utah placed forward Michael Carcone on the injured reserve with an upper-body injury.

The Mammoth selected Duda, 22, with the 36th overall pick in the 2022 NHL Draft. He was playing for the MHL’s Krasnaya Armiya Moskva, scoring 14 goals and 41 points in 52 games with a +21 rating. Duda graduated to the KHL’s CSKA Moskva a year later, finishing with three assists in 14 games. After a one-year stint at Toronto Metropolitan University, Duda transitioned to professional life for the 2024-25 season.

Since then, he has only played for the AHL Roadrunners, and that isn’t expected to change. Defenseman John Marino is dealing with an upper-body injury, though the Mammoth are expected to utilize their existing depth rather than have Duda make his NHL debut.

Other than some injury concerns, the Russian blue liner has played relatively well in the AHL. Since turning pro, Duda has scored nine goals and 45 points in 103 games with a +28 rating, showing the two-way defenseman he could become in the NHL.

Meanwhile, Carcone lands on the injured reserve as expected. The six-year veteran has not played since October 8th, and was given a week-to-week recovery timeline. Carcone is arguably coming off his best season, scoring 16 goals and 31 points in 79 games in the 2025-26 campaign. This year, Carcone registered a goal and an assist in five games before the upper-body ailment.
