The Toronto Maple Leafs are in major need of change, and after their struggles, MLSE President and CEO Keith Pelley has fired a warning shot at the team.
After failing to go beyond the second round again in 2025, Maple Leafs Sports and Entertainment came together to make a big change, and they did exactly that by moving on from President of Hockey Operations Brendan Shanahan, who has worked in that role for 11 years.
Not only that, but they made a huge shift in the organization, as CEO Keith Pelley revealed bigger roles for both Craig Berube and Brad Treliving, noting that they would not be replacing Shanahan, but instead getting more from their Head Coach and General Manager.
In the same press conference where he revealed that, Pelley also fired a major warning shot at the players on the ice, stating that after failing for so many years (nine straight post-season appearances, just two series wins), good enough is now simply not good enough.
We have a responsibility to our fans, and that responsibility is winning Championships. And we will do everything we possibly can and will not stop until we reach that goal.
After years of uncertainty and running things back, it's clear that things at MLSE are no longer as they once were, and with the opportunity to shake this roster up in a big way, with two members of the Core Four potentially on the way out, Pelley wants this organization to finally live up to their potential.
It's unclear what changes Pelley, Treliving and Berube will make to the roster this off-season to get closer to their goal of a Stanley Cup, but with Marner and Tavares both free agents, the chance for change is there, so don't be shocked to see some massive moves made in the coming months by this team.
