Will the 2026 trade deadline be entertaining in the NHL? Who knows.
We know that, for a variety of reasons, it’s possible that things will be relatively quiet on the heels of the deadline, which is March 6.
Some clubs will make moves, of course. However, it may not be historic.
The Canadiens could be in that category. There’s a good chance that Kent Hughes won’t be the buyer of the year in the coming weeks. He could surprise us, of course, but…
That said, there’s one name that refuses to die in town: Nazem Kadri. The Calgary Flames center could change addresses this season if the Flames get their price.
And according to Chris Johnston of The Athletic, if he is traded, Montreal is the team to watch. In any case, his prediction is that Kadri will end up in Montreal , as we can read in an article on the current rumors.
Obviously, we know that the Canadiens aren’t thrilled with his contract. We also agree that we don’t know if the Habs are willing to pay a high price to block a guy like Michael Hage in the medium term.

But it’s clear that in 2026, Kadri would make the Canadiens a better team. As a left-handed center, he would improve the top six and make the Habs a team capable of going deep into the playoffs.
Let’s not forget that he’s not opposed to the idea of playing here, either.
Of course, the price to pay to the Flames could be an issue, especially if there is salary cap space. If there is a bidding war for his services, the price could get too high for Kent Hughes.
But let’s just say we’ll be keeping a close eye on the situation in the coming weeks.
