The Devils will play the Buffalo Sabres in two games, a home-and-home series for both teams. Prague, Czech Republic, will be the host city for the 2024 Global Series. This will be the second time the Devils will be part of the Global Series. Back in 2018, the Devils played the Edmonton Oilers in the 2018-19 season as Scandinavium in Gothenburg, Sweden, hosting the two games between both teams.
During that season, the Devils played SC Bern in Switzerland in an exhibition game before they headed over to play the Oilers in Sweden. This time, the Sabres will play two exhibition games in Munich, Germany, before meeting the Devils in Prague.
When the Devils played SC Bern in Switzerland, it was a homecoming for Devils captain Nico Hischier. It could potentially be a homecoming for players like Ondrej Palat, Tomas Nosek, and goaltender Vitek Vanecek.
The NHL continued bringing the game globally to Europe and other countries in 2017 with the first Global Series game. The Colorado Avalanche and Ottawa Senators then participated in Stockholm, Sweden. They had three successful runs with the Global Series before the pandemic wreaked havoc on the overseas games.
The NHL brought back the Global Series games in 2022 when the Nashville Predators and San Jose Sharks played in Prague, while the Colorado Avalanche and Columbus Blue Jackets played in Finland. To kick off the 2023-24 season, the Los Angeles Kings and Arizona Coyotes played two exhibition games in Melbourne, Australia, at Rod Laver Arena, which drew 13,000 fans at each game.
Then, back in November, the Senators, Toronto Maple Leafs, Minnesota Wild, and Detroit Red Wings participated in the 2023 Global Series in Stockholm, Sweden. It was a homecoming for Maple Leafs player William Nylander, who performed well as he extended his point streak to begin the season.
In addition to the Devils and Sabres playing in Prague, the Dallas Stars and Florida Panthers will play in Finland in November.
