The National Hockey League free agency window opens tomorrow at 12:00 PM EST and the Detroit Red Wings expect to be active as they build their roster for the 2024-25 season as they look to return to the Stanley Cup playoffs for the first time since the 2015-16 season. Today, there was speculation that the Red Wings were going to bring back Patrick Kane and as of just a few minutes ago it has been made official as he signs a one-year contract extension on the eve of free agency with a $4M base, also including a $1.5M bonus at ten games, 250,000 at 60 games, and $500,000 if they make the playoffs; also an extra clause of $250,000 if he record 60 points and they make the playoffs. Equaling a total of $6.5M and showtime back in Motown.

Patrick Kane last season wanted to play with Alex DeBrincat and felt his heart at home in Detroit, now he is back in a winged wheel sweater. Last season, he played in 50 games recording 47 points on 20 goals and 27 assists; he was minus five, had 15 power play points on two goals, and 13 assists. He was returning from back hip surfacing surgery and many questioned if he’d be the same dynamic player he was before but he proved that wrong by being a key cog to the Red Wings offense as they made a key push to the playoffs and fell just short on the last night of the regular season. Kane, including last season played, has played in 1,230 games recording 1,284 points on 471 goals, and 813 assists; he is a career plus 16, has 417 power play points on 126 power play goals, and 291 assists.
