Ranking the NHL's Hometown Remix jerseys: Nos. 24-17

The NHL and Fanatics released the Hometown Remix uniforms on Monday, after many were already leaked on social media, the Macy’s website and even by a fan at a game. The rollout was poor and some of these jerseys are too, but some are also decent.

The uniforms, which were announced in August, is the third special league-wide rollout for the NHL, following the Reverse Retro 2.0 set in 2022-23, and were designed to “uniquely and authentically celebrate the fans, city and local culture of each team,” according to the NHL.

Let's continue the countdown starting with No. 24.

Read Nos. 32-25 here.

No. 24: Ottawa Senators

This only stands out from the previous dark color-light color offerings because the gold really pops on the black and there’s red trim included. There’s a pattern on the sleeves that represents Ottawa’s Gothic architecture but you can’t see it from a distance. At least the gold is shiny.

No. 23: Minnesota Wild

Another team using a black base, this time to represent a night in the wilderness. There’s more near-invisible embosses details on the jersey but this gets a pass because the bright green and white pops and the logo actually looks good with this color scheme.

The only reason this isn’t ranked lower with the other sets like this is because of the crest logo. It was introduced as a shoulder patch last year on the Lightning’s Stadium Series set and immediately became their best logo. The lightning bolt sleeves are a nice touch but blue and black bleeds into each other too much.

It’s a solid look but the only issue is that it looks like the Rangers couldn’t decide which logo to use up front. They are a team that traditionally uses the diagonal text but the Lady Liberty logo looks like an afterthought. Since the embossing we can’t see is inspired by the base of the Statue of Liberty’s torch, just use that logo.

It was long rumored and the Blackhawks finally delivered with official green jerseys. The team used to wear special St. Patrick’s Day jerseys during warmups until a couple of years ago, but at the end of the day, it’s a regular Blackhawks jersey in green, which is an underutilized color in hockey.

A traditional team that tried to buck tradition with this one but it feels like the Canadiens couldn’t choose one thing and wanted to honor all of Montreal on this jersey. The crest logo needs more color and the side panels look out of place, but the tribute to the city’s flag on the sleeve is a nice touch on an otherwise plain jersey.

No. 18: Boston Bruins

A very good, and underused, color scheme is ruined with a plain-text crest similar to the Dallas Stars’ 2007-13 home jerseys. Meant to represent a college varsity jacket, any sort of bear logo on the front would have instantly catapulted this into the top five.

A big thank you to the Kings for using a color the NHL seems allergic to in purple, which is why this is as high as it is, but the color with this logo just doesn’t work. While the Kings should be wearing purple, sorry Forum Blue, full time, the chevron logo isn’t meant for this. Simply putting a crown on the front would have been just fine.
