Stars center Roope Hintz is breaking his silence after the controversial slash by Oilers defenseman Darnell Nurse, which fractured his ankle, went unpunished by the NHL.

The Dallas Stars were extremely upset that the NHL Department of Player Safety decided not to punish Edmonton Oilers defenseman Darnell Nurse for his brutal slash to the ankle of forward Roope Hintz.

Nurse was initially hit with a 5 minute major penalty before it was soon reduced to a mere 2 minute minor, and there was no additional discipline. Hintz missed the rest of Game 2 and couldn't play in Game 3.

Hintz and the Stars were knocked from the playoffs by the Oilers, who won the WCF in 5 games. During their locker room cleanout day, Hintz confirmed that his injury was nothing minor and that he'd suffered a fractured foot.

Naturally, Hintz said the ordeal was painful.

So, there was a fracture, or a crack, however you call it. So it was pretty painful. I tried to go in Game 3, but I couldn't. Then we find a way that I was able to play in Game 4.

After Game 2, a furious Peter DeBoer called out what he felt was a double standard in the officiating had the circumstances been reversed and an Oilers star player had been hurt instead.

I'll answer your question with a question, does anyone in this room think if Connor McDavid gets carried off the ice like that, it's not a five-minute major. That's my answer to your question.

Unfortunately for the Stars, there's nothing that can be done at this point.
