Chloe Skinner, the wife of Edmonton Oilers goaltender Stuart Skinner, is revealing some shocking online comments directed at them from some disturbed fans.
The Edmonton Oilers are back in the Stanley Cup Final for the 2nd year in a row, taking on the Florida Panthers in the 1st rematch of the same pair of teams in almost 20 years.
Oilers goaltender Stuart Skinner has completely turned the tables after a ghastly performance in the opening pair of games in the postseason in Round 1 against the Los Angeles Kings in which he allowed a total of 11 goals and was benched in favor of Calvin Pickard.
Skinner eventually returned to the net and led the Oilers to series wins over both the Vegas Golden Knights and Dallas Stars, during which he pitched 3 shutouts in 4 games; he also held the Stars to a single goal in Games 3 and 4 of the series in Edmonton.
However, some particularly disturbed fans caused anxiety and even fear for Skinner's family with unhinged online comments directed toward him and his loved ones.
Chloe Skinner, Stuart's wife, told a particularly disturbing story about some of the online vitriol directed at them during a recent podcast.
We have a very passionate fanbase, and the people here, they live and breathe for the Oilers. Take as old as time is that goalies, he's the punching bag of it. And this year definitely got intense. There were times security had to be involved. We got a lot, I specifically, my DMs can be filled with death threats towards the kids, to myself. Anonymous accounts, hiding behind their screens, it can get really ugly. People wanting, threatening to come, if they ever see us they're gonna take us out.
It gets intense. When I do read those, I do get really scared.
While criticizing the on-ice play of athletes is normal, directing threats toward them and their families is completely unacceptable.
