The season started with Paul Maurice at a September 16th press conference saying he won’t give everyone what they want by playing the Tkachuks on a line with Sam Bennett. However, out of necessity, they had to try that combination, and so far it has worked remarkably well and might help lead the Panthers to success in both the regular season and playoffs. With injuries to Brad Marchand and Aleksander Barkov, the Panthers had to shuffle their lines, and it has worked exceptionally well to this point.
This line is key to the Panthers’ success in both the playoffs and the regular season because of how seamlessly they fit together. They play a style where each player’s skill set adds to the others because they can combine talent, physicality, and disruption. It also creates a line where all three players can drive the play on their own and be both the facilitator and goal scorer. With three talented forwards who complement one another, and the offensive output they’ve had since being put together, this line could lead to sizeable success in both the regular season and in the playoffs.
This line’s style blends right into the identity formed by the Stanley Cup-winning Panthers, with Sam Bennett and Matthew Tkachuk as key contributors.
Sam Bennett has had plenty of playoff success since joining the Panthers, highlighted by a Conn Smythe Trophy win. He had a 23-game playoff run, finishing with 15 goals and seven assists for 22 points and racking up 48 penalty minutes. While representing Team Canada at the Four Nations Face-Off and the 2026 Olympics in Milan, he appeared in eight games with two points in best-on-best competition. His playoff output and time in elite international competition showed he can deliver in big moments, an essential ingredient for being an important component of a playoff line.
Matthew Tkachuk has also been a supremely productive playoff player in South Florida. Over the Panthers’ three trips to the Stanley Cup Final in 67 games, he registered 25 goals and 44 assists for 69 points and was a crucial piece of the run. Meanwhile, at the highest level of international competition, he also delivered best-on-best play for Team USA. In nine games at the Four Nations Face-Off and the 2026 Olympics in Milan, he contributed two goals and seven assists for nine points between the two tournaments.
Brady Tkachuk doesn’t have the same playoff production, but in a smaller sample size of 10 games, he has four goals and three assists for seven points. He also accumulated 19 penalty minutes and has shown he can deliver in the playoffs, and that will only improve as he becomes more comfortable playing with his brother and Team USA linemate.
While playing for Team USA across the two major international tournaments of the last two years. He appeared in 10 games and tallied six goals and two assists for eight points. He’s proven he can perform at the highest level, and given the right situation, he can be a pivotal factor in Florida if the Bennett-Tkachuk-Tkachuk line stays together.
Since forming the line, it has produced at an extraordinary level, combining for six goals over the six games they’ve played together. This is only during 5-on-5 play, not including any power-play production where all three are on the ice. While primarily known for their offensive production, they’ve also allowed only two goals against. This is the Panthers’ highest-scoring, most prolific line.
This helps build a lineup that makes sense and can lead to playoff success. It still lets Barkov center his own line, which will be outstanding from a two-way perspective, with Reinhart and Verhaeghe on his wings, who also add superb goal-scoring and two-way ability. It rounds out the top six into a complete unit while still allowing for a strong third line of Luostarinen, Lundell, and Marchand.
This completes an exceptionally talented, balanced top nine that positions them well for playoff and regular-season success once everyone is healthy, while still leaving room to upgrade with another top-tier deadline acquisition, as the Panthers tend to be aggressive in a competing window.
Since putting this line together, the Panthers have opened up something and built a line that makes a lot of sense, with the potential to grow and develop chemistry so they can fire on all cylinders come playoff time. This line of the two Tkachuks and Bennett will be crucial for the Panthers’ regular season, but will play an even bigger role once the postseason begins. They have all the tools to succeed, have shown up in big moments, and, as a trio, started the regular season strong, so they’ll be even more vital to both playoff and regular-season success.
