Ty Voit was a fifth-round pick of the Toronto Maple Leafs back in 2021, but now the team has shockingly moved on from the talented young forward.

The Toronto Maple Leafs have a very good group at the NHL level as they look to chase their first Stanley Cup since 1967, but it's safe to say that their prospect group lacks elite level talent in a big way.

It comes as a surprise then that the team have decided to part ways with an intriguing young prospect on Tuesday, officially revealing that Ty Voit has been placed on waivers for the purpose of contract termination.

The 22-year old was drafted back in 2021 with the No. 153 overall selection, but having spent most of his professional career in the ECHL thus far, it was unclear if he was ever going to be able to make the jump to the AHL or the NHL.

This past season, Voit had 8 goals and 37 points in 63 games played for the ECHL's Cincinnati Cyclones, with his development simply not being good enough thus far for the team to justify keeping him in the organization.

This all comes off the back of a 105 point season in his final year with the Sarnia Stint of the Ontario Hockey League, with many looking at the 5-foot-10 forward as a steal of a pick in the fifth round.

Ultimately though, it appears there was a reason he dropped that far in the draft, as he hasn't shown enough to be worth of making a push for a full-time roster spot in the American Hockey League, and now, the 22-year old will have a chance to weigh up his future as he still looks to make it in professional hockey.
