Veteran goaltender is calling it quits from the NHL

Antti Raanta is a goaltender who bounced around the NHL quite a bit over the last few years, although he was pretty solid whenever he got a fair shake in the net.

Unfortunately, after some time with the Carolina Hurricanes, it appears as though Raanta's time in the NHL has come to an end. He was looking for another job, however, the only teams that were interested were those with injured goaltenders. Raanta was not interested in being a team's insurance policy and decided to just retire from the NHL, as the AHL was not an option.

While he might be done with the NHL, he is not done with professional hockey. According to journalist Simo Frigole, Raanta is going to be pursuing hockey opportunities throughout Europe. Simply put, he wants to play for a top league in its main division. A farm system is not of interest.

Raanta finished his career with a goals-against average of 2.48 and a save percentage of .915. Moreover, his career record was 139-80-29, which is quite good all things considered. One could make the argument that the 35-year-old deserved better opportunities.
