Phillies' trade-deadline acquisition continues to be clutch

The Philadelphia Phillies acquired two players from the Minnesota Twins at the trade deadline: closer Jhoan Duran and outfielder Harrison Bader.

Duran immediately made a noticeable impact by throwing absolute heat and picking up four saves in his first four opportunities in a Phillies uniform. Overall, he's saved nine games in 10 chances, pitching to a 1.69 ERA over 13 appearances with Philadelphia.

Bader has been slower to stand out, but the 31-year-old has started to catch fire. He's played a key role both offensively and defensively for the Phillies, slashing .313/.385/.488 with nine extra-base hits, nine RBI and seven walks across 91 plate appearances.

He's been especially clutch, something Philadelphia needed in their lineup down the stretch. His first home run as a Phillie came on Aug. 4 against the Baltimore Orioles, a three-run shot in the sixth inning that broke a 3-3 tie to make it 6-3. Bader's homer helped break the game open, as the Phillies went on to win, 13-3.

On Aug. 23 vs. the Washington Nationals, he went 3-for-4 with a double in a 6-4 Phillies win.

Against his former team, the New York Mets, on Aug. 26, he totaled seven bases, including a clutch two-run home run in the eighth inning that tied the game at five. Philadelphia lost, 6-5.

Overshadowed by Kyle Schwarber's four-homer night on Aug. 28 vs. the Atlanta Braves was Bader's four-hit night, adding a double and a triple in a 19-4 rout.

Then, on Monday in Milwaukee, he had two doubles and three RBI in a decisive 10-8 win against the MLB-leading Brewers.

On top of his offense, Bader has supplied spectacular defense in center field. He's a former Gold Glove Award winner in center field, and he's put that on display over his first month in Philadelphia.

He robbed Texas Rangers shortstop Corey Seager of a game-tying home run back on Aug. 10, and most recently, nabbed his former teammate Francisco Lindor at second base. Lindor gave his props.

Finally, one of the bats that president of baseball operations, Dave Dombrowski, traded for has delivered. The Phillies hope he can continue to supply clutch hits well into October.
