Conn Smythe betting market is chaos right now: Take advantage

Few markets have been as volatile as what we are seeing from the NHL right now in the Conn Smythe winner market. As a refresher, the Conn Smythe goes to the postseason MVP from the playoffs, and it is not simply a Finals MVP award.

Last week, Florida goalie Sergei Bobrovsky was -200 to win this award, and Connor McDavid was closer to +1000. Just before Game 5, the market had evened out a bit on the Panthers end, with Bobrovsky -105 to win and Aleksander Barkov at +105. McDavid was +700, the same price as Edmonton winning the Cup.

Following another four-point effort from McDavid and a 5-3 Oilers win, the market has completely swung on its head and has us reevaluating just how the winner may be named this season.

Current Conn Smythe betting odds and thoughts

  1. Connor McDavid (-150)
  2. Aleksander Barkov (+230)
  3. Sergei Bobrovsky (+550)
  4. Matthew Tkachuk (+5000)

McDavid is the heavy favorite to win the Conn Smythe despite Edmonton still down 3-2 in the series. That is because the Oilers star has rattled off two straight games with four points. That production now puts McDavid at 42 points (23 more than the Florida leader), and currently fourth all-time in NHL playoff history, five shy of Wayne Gretzky's record in 1985.

It's very possible here that McDavid wins the award no matter what happens in this series. The main reason there is there does not seem to really be a compelling case on the Florida end.

Bobrovsky has been great all postseason and started the Stanley Cup Final extremely strong. However, he's now let in nine goals in his last two games, which has seen his odds shoot down in the market.

Barkov is the favorite, but color this writer confused. Barkov has produced zero points in the last two games and has failed to slow down McDavid, which has been his calling card and a reason why he's been considered the favorite.

If Bobrovsky shuts out Edmonton in Game 6, this award could still be his. If Matthew Tkachuk, who is currently tied with Barkov with 19 points, has a monster game in a Florida win, his +5000 price starts to seem much more appealing.

It does seem McDavid's win is inevitable at this point, but if you're hoping for a Florida bet, Bobrovsky and Tkachuk at these prices seem to be the best direction to go.
